Get to know Maria, our HR & Customer Care Manager

Learn more about our HR & Customer Care Manager, Maria McIlroy, who plays a central role in looking after both customers and staff at ECOM.

If you’ve been following us for some time, you’ll know just how proud we are of our staff here at ECOM UK. We do everything we can to celebrate the brilliant individuals at our head office in Basildon – especially those who work more behind the scenes, like Maria McIlroy, our HR & Customer Care Manager.

Maria had a brilliantly varied career before settling into her role at ECOM. Having previously worked as a market trader, a mortgage administrator, and a bridging finance administrator, she brings a great deal of experience to our customer service team, as well as her work looking after our own staff.

She has achieved many qualifications herself over the years, so it was only natural that Maria played a vital part in helping us achieve our ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. Gaining this ISO has been instrumental in helping us develop our quality management systems internally and improve our customers’ perception of our business as a whole.

“I was looking for a new challenge, and someone I knew at ECOM told me there was an administrative vacancy at the company. I applied – and I’m very glad I did,” Maria said. “Before long, I was invited to go for the new HR Manager role, and I’ve loved taking charge of this department ever since.”

Asked what she likes the most about working at ECOM, Maria thinks it’s the relaxed but productive atmosphere that she couldn’t do without.

“Plus, like any company, it’s really the people that make it,” she added. “I’m grateful to work with such a fun yet dedicated team and I can’t see myself wanting to leave ECOM in the mid- to long-term.”

When she’s not working, Maria enjoys spending time with her very young grandchildren, and taking her equally young dog, Annie, out for lovely long walks.
