Migrating our client from an in-house server to a virtual Microsoft Azure server

< Back to News

“Many thanks to ECOM for handling this important project for us. Since the migration, we’ve noticed that the system runs a lot faster when we’re logging in. We also appreciate the fact we can access our database from anywhere, on any device – this has certainly changed the way we work.”

At ECOM UK, we are committed to finding new ways to optimise our clients’ existing IT networks.

Choose us as your IT partner, and our dedicated team of experts will closely analyse your current network infrastructure, identify areas of improvement, and develop tailored solutions that seamlessly integrate with your systems – as we did recently for this client, a service provider based in Basildon, Essex.

Below is a list of the seven steps we took when migrating the business from an in-house 2019 virtual server to a Microsoft Azure server, all while implementing Windows 265 clients and a SAGE accounting system without compromising on performance or functionality.

1. Assessment

First of all, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the client’s current in-house 2019 server infrastructure, including its hardware, software, and network dependencies. We also identified the applications, systems, and data associated with the SAGE accounting system.

2. Design and Planning

Next, we created a detailed migration plan that outlined the necessary steps and timeline for the migration. We considered factors such as how the data would be migrated, how compatible our proposed apps were, how the network would be configured, and, of course, the client’s security requirements.

3. Azure Server Setup

Our main aim here was to provision an appropriate Azure Server instance that met the client’s requirements. We configured the server environment to ensure it has sufficient resources, networking, and security measures in place.

4. Data and Application Migration

We transferred the client’s data, including the SAGE system, from the in-house server to the Azure Server. Our team implemented the appropriate migration tools and methodologies to ensure a secure and seamless transfer of data.

5. Application Compatibility

We verified the compatibility of the SAGE accounts system and other applications with the Azure Server and Windows 365 clients, making any necessary adjustments and updates to ensure optimal performance and functionality.

6. Testing and Validation

We conducted thorough testing of the migrated environment to ensure that all applications, including the SAGE accounts system, were functioning correctly. We validated the integrity of the data and verified that the Windows 365 clients were seamlessly accessing the Azure Server.

7. User Training and Support

We provided training sessions for the client’s users to familiarise them with the Windows 365 clients and any changes in accessing their SAGE accounts system. Our consultants were also on hand to offer ongoing technical support and to address any questions or issues that arose during the transition.
